Michael Frazier has been an artist for over thirty years. He studied art at Boise State University. When he began making tables, they were so popular, he began making them full time. That was thirty-two years and four thousand tables ago.

Michael has designed and invented all of the furniture sold by his company, Michael Frazier Designs. His redwood outdoor furniture is original. It is beautiful, durable and different from other products on the market in several ways:

• Our outdoor redwood furniture is friendly to the environment. The wood and the Tung oil finish are organic and totally renewable. Yet, they are better than anything on the market.
• We include umbrella holes on two corners so that the owner can move the umbrella. This makes it possible to control where the shade is.

 

• The outdoor folding tables are wide enough to have room for main dishes or even centerpieces without crowding the place settings.

 

• The oiled and finished tables and benches are breath-takingly beautiful. The wood (coastal redwood) is so deep it’s prismatic and has hundreds of shades and colors.
• Benches and tables of our handmade furniture fold up in about a second for storage. They come with storage racks which can be on wheels. They are very easy to move.

• Every edge is rounded, every leg and the bottoms of the benches. The attention to detail is remarkable.
• I have never heard of one of our table sets wearing out. We have pictures of sets that are thirty years old and still stunning.
• We can make custom shapes for any area, with single benches for instance, a bench for each person. If you need a half-round table that still folds, we will do it.

• Different sizes of tables are available. Four can be seated easily for a small table. Or larger groups can be accommodated, with outdoor dining tables for ten or twelve people.

 

Surprising Facts

In our business, there are things that people find surprising. 

The oil finish that we invented and sell is completely formulated from seed oils, citrus oils and nut oils. It is the best outdoor finish that I’ve ever found. It has no toxins in it and smells like oranges. 

The wood that we use (coastal redwood) is the fastest growing crop tree in North America and is planted and harvested by more tree farmers than any other wood. It is constantly renewed. 

Every outdoor folding table, dining table, wood planter box and patio furniture is environmentally sound and tests green (meaning environmentally friendly).

 

History of Michael Frazier Designs

Being a woodworker, inventor and businessman, Michael Frazier began making outdoor folding tables in the 80s. Here is the timeline of his accomplishments.

1985 – Michael builds his first folding picnic set from pine and sells it in Seattle.

1987 – The Frazier family moves to Los Angeles. Michael sets up a shop in Burbank and the first tables come off the line. 

1987 – Michael sells three table sets to a Sheik in Saudi Arabia and two sets to be used in a castle in Great Britain.

1995 – Michael and family move to Ukiah, CA and set up shop in the heart of Redwood Country (Northern California).

1997 – Michael starts using Tung Oil (Commercial variety) to finish his redwood creations. At the same time he begins research to find a perfect finish for outdoor dining sets that is also organic and green.

2007 – Michael redesigns height of tables and benches to add on the “Perfect Height”. 

2009 – Michael launches the bench with a back that he has designed.

2010 – Michael perfects his search for the perfect finish for his redwood pieces. It is Michael’s Orangewood Oil which utilizes Tung Oil and other oils.  All table sets are finished with this oil. 

2015 – Michael designs and builds 85 redwood planters for the grand opening of a large movie lot in Hollywood.

2020 – Michael announces his products are perfectly green – sustainable redwood, repurposing redwood generated in the shop for smaller redwood products and totally “green” oil finish – Michael’s Orangewood Oil.
