FAQs
Our outdoor deck furniture lasts for decades, with many of our customers having their sets for 30 years. Your furniture will look beautiful with proper maintenance.
Our outdoor deck tables and benches are built to fold and unfold in one simple movement. Simply lift the table from its stand, grasp each side of the table surface, lift, and slide together. Benches also unfold in one seamless movement and are folded away for storage just as easily.
Our outdoor deck and patio furniture is available in two colors: "dark red" and "mixed light."
Dark Red: This is the darker redwood with no light or white spots. We recommend caring for your dark red table with Michael's Dark Orangewood Oil.
Mixed Light: This lighter shade can be customized as to the amount of white, according to your taste. We recommend caring for your mixed light table with Michael's Natural Orangewood Oil.
Sets of tables and benches can be designed with the same degree of white within the set for a beautiful matched appearance.
If you paint over the natural redwood finish, use a good primer and then as many layers of paint as needed to create the desired effect.
This set was named “Sequoia” because it was built from Sequoia Sempervirens (coastal redwood). Our outdoor deck and patio furniture features boards with a low gloss waterproof Tung oil blend that creates a “cabin” look unique to the Sequoia Sets.
The Tung oil blend finish (Michael's Orangewood Oil) provides a waterproof coating that is easy to maintain. You can also easily re-apply additional coats of Michael's Orangewood oil as needed. With regular care, you will find that your set will actually look better after five years than it did when it was new. Maintenance takes about 30 minutes, every three to six months.
Of course, you can always apply extra coats of the oil blend, which penetrates and conditions the wood. It's really like hand lotion for the wood.
Our outdoor deck and patio furniture are completely waterproof, thanks to our pure Tung oil blend finish. However, we recommend storing your tables and benches in the winter if you live in an area of the country that experiences cold weather. Also, if you live in desert regions (like Phoenix and Tucson), we suggest keeping your set protected when it’s not in use. The sun and 120-degree heat of the southwest desert can damage the wood.
The quick-folding action of the tables and benches takes about three minutes. Once folded, each piece of furniture is six inches wide and takes up about 18 inches of storage space (for two benches and a table).
Redwood is the fastest growing crop tree in the United States, and the coastal redwood we use is an all-natural, renewable resource. Few building materials display the combination of beauty, warmth, durability, and versatility inherent in redwood.
Additionally, the rich color of redwood is legendary. Because of the natural variations of color, every redwood board is unique. Such distinction cannot be matched by man-made, alternative products.
Finally, redwood is inherently durable and naturally resistant to insects and decay. It also has excellent “dimensional stability,” meaning that it has thinner cell walls that shrink and swell less than other woods when exposed to moisture. Because of this quality redwood is less likely to warp, split, cup, or crack, making it more durable than other wood options.
Michael's special blend Tung oil finish is applied to all our wood products to waterproof and condition the redwood. Tung oil has incredible qualities, and we have blended other organic oils to his formula. This finish has been perfected by Michael Frazier over a three year period.
Not only is Michael’s finish “green” and all organic, it is completely nontoxic and smells like citrus. Our special formula does not crack or peel because it is an oil, not a plastic or varnish. Furthermore, it does not need to be stripped off before adding another coat. The more oil that is applied to the furniture, the more lustrous and beautiful the finish becomes. It's really like hand lotion for the wood.
